Today i had a trip to the JB with the Famalia. Was quiet mundane till when we get to our dinner time. We sat a a hawker near some wet market tt practically open 24/7. There was one hawker selling local traditional malay crusine, food like Nasik Goreng, Nasik Ayam Sambal, Mee goreng. So i ordered his Nasik Ayam Sambal. and boy! his sambal is really spicy.
So i come to think about "sambal", and tts y i blog about this thing!
Sambal is a condiment used in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the southern Philippines, Sri Lanka and from where ever. It is made from a variety of peppers, although chili peppers are the most common. Sambal is used as a condiment or as a side dish, and is sometimes substituted for fresh chilis; it can be very hot for the uninitiated. It is available at exotic food markets or gourmet departments in supermarkets in numerous countries. Sambal always create a special feeling the the inner depth of out mouth and will make u say "siiiii" or "haaaaa" or sumwhere along tt line.
Another interesting a fact that or common thing i have just realise when having sambal/spicy ness.
Ok imagine a group of malays sitting in a room having dinner and one of them is eating his/her Nasik goreng + lots of sambal belacan/sambal tumis, making the "siiiii or haaaa" sound. One of the friend would ask him/her this question.
ASL KO SUKE SAMBAL/PEDAS SANGAT? (y do u like sambal/spicy food a lot?)
The 3 common answer would be.
1.) SHIOK!!!!!! (with the kinda face)
2.)KO TAK MAKAN PEDAS KER? (questioning back, U dont eat sambal/ spicy food ker +plus really puzzled face)
3.) Dont know
Well it would be funny if u think about how a humble food product can create laughter, fun and excitement in our daily routine.
Its has been great writing this.
